Mrs Bettie Thompson, better known as "Aunt Bettie" died at the home of her son, C E Thompson, of Dawson, on Friday, May 19, 1922. Funeral services were conducted at her old home Church - Sam Black Memorial - by her pastor Rev C C Lambert, after which she was laid to rest in the Burns Cemetery. She was born near Smoot ,May 25, 1837, and was the daughter of John T Walker, a pioneer of western Greenbrier and the man for whom Walker Meadows was named. She married James T Thompson (deceased) in 1857. Four children survive her - C E Thompson, of Dawson, Edgar Thompson, of Beckley; Mrs C G Martin, of Alderson, and Mrs McMillion, of near Lewisburg, all of whom were present at the burial. Sh is also survived by 27 grandchildren. "Aunt Bettie" united with the M E Church, South, in 1885 and has been a faithful member since that time.
