He had gone to California in March to visit with a daughter, Mrs. Donadan (Helena) Sigmon, Costa Mesa, Calif.
Jackson's fire department career led him to the top position which he held for 15 years, retiring in 1950.
Mr. Jackson was born Dec. 17, 1877 at Cottonwood, Utah, the son of Alva H. And Helena Elvina Andrus Jackson. He came to Idaho Falls with his parents at the age of 2 in 1880. The town was then known as Eagle Rock. His parents homesteaded on Willow Creek.
He married Elvina Sara Ellis on Aug. 20, 1900 in Idaho Falls. After their marriage, he farmed for several years with his father and also on a farm near town where the present city airport is located. In 1906, they bought a home on 9th street where they lived since. Mrs. Jackson died Aug. 7, 1960
Jackson joined the fire department in June, 1920, as a driver. He held the post of assistant fire chief for 12 years, and was fire chief the last 15 years he was with the department. He retired in 1950.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Donadan (Helena) Sigmon, Costa Mesa, Calif., and Mrs. James (Valeria) Millard, Idaho Falls; five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
