Immigrated to the United States with his parents, Frederich and Elizabeth (Zeigler) Salzgeber around 1842.

Note the original spelling of William's surname was Salzgeber, which is how he signed his marriage certificate in 1868. His monument at Obetz Cemetery indicates the name was adapted to Salzgaber at some point. His children spelled the surname with an added "t," as Saltzgaber.
