Obituary of Warren Winslow
Warren Winslow was born in Bradford Co., Penn., September 5th, 1839 and passed away at his home in Walnut Monday, July 3rd, 1911 at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 27 days after an illness of several months duration. He was the son of Rufus and Nancy (Quick) Winslow and was of a family of seven children, one of whom survives, Charles of Lenox, Iowa.
With his parents he came to Illinois when about twelve years of age where he grew to manhood.
In the year 1862 he settled in Hahnanian, Whiteside Co., where he resided until the year 1895 when he retired from farming and moved to Walnut where he resided until his death.
December 12, 1861 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Renner, who has proved a companion and true helpmate. Not being blessed with children of their own they took their niece Martha Renner at the age of a year and a half to live with them who loved them and was loved in return as their own child. In 1894 she was married to J.B. Engles of Chicago, where she now resides. She with the sorrowing widow and brother are left to mourn one they dearly loved.
The funeral was held at the home Wednesday afternoon July 5th, conducted by Rev. O.P. Ellis of the Christian church, and the remains were laid to rest in the Walnut cemetery.
You are gone but not forgotten,
In our memory you shall never fade.
And until life and strength have left us,
We shall linger around your grave.
That sad morning that you left us.
Our aching hearts shall ne'er forget
That loving smile you cast upon us
When you closed your eyes in death.
