Gertrude "Gertie" is the daughter of Peter Frederickson and Anna _ Frederickson. She was born in Maple Ridge Township, Isanti County, Minnesota. She was baptized at Cambridge Lutheran Church and later confirmed there. She attended Springvale School.

Gertie was first married to Walter Dobe on 17 April 1931. They lived on a farm in Maple Ridge Township, Isanti County, Minnesota. To this union, two children were born: Dorothy (Dobe) Rysdam and Darrell Dobe. After Walter's death on 26 October 1953, Gertie worked as a housckeeper.

Wally and Gertie were united in marriage on 20 March 1961. They had no children together.

Gertie was well known in the area for being a great cook. She could take a cake mix, add some ingredients and make a larger cake. She also had a great fondness for rhubarb. Anytime you visited her house; you were always treated to a pot of coffee and something good to eat. Also for a few years she had a local route that she sold her baking goods to people.

Gertie was also devoted to her faith. She was a Sunday school teacher for 25 years, Sunday school superintendent for several years and taught Bible school for many years.

On 13 January 1996, Gertie was admitted to the Green Acres Country Care Center in North Branch. On 8 February 1996 she was transferred to the Cambridge Health Care Center where she later died on Sunday, 13 September 1998 at the age of 86. Gertie was interred in the Siloa Lutheran Cemetery, Maple Ridge Township, Isanti County, Minnesota on Thursday, 17 September 1998.
