MILITARY - George W. Baldwin, age 24, occupation Blacksmith, enlisted as a Private in the Union Army on 28 Dec 1863. He Mustered In on 26 Jan 1864 in New Jersey to Company A, 3rd New Jersey Cavalry Regiment. The "Butterflies,"as they were known, were famous for being one of only two Union regiments designated as hussars, and the only one to serve with the Army of the Potomac. He Mustered out with the rank of Blacksmith on 1 Aug 1865 in Washington D. C.
