James was born on June 9, 1944, in San Angelo, Texas, to James and Jo Kathryn (Schmidt) Brasher. James played on the Class of '61 football team that was inducted to the Lake View High School Hall of Fame. He was drafted by the University of Houston to play football.
James married Velma Nelson on Sept. 13, 1968, in Pasadena, Texas. He was active in Lake View Baptist Church, House of Faith and the food ministry. James was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching family and friends alike playing sports. James could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
James is survived by his wife, Velma Brasher of San Angelo; daughters Gena L. Smith and husband Mike of Nibley, Utah, Tammy Brasher of Deer Park, Texas, Kamella D. Brasher of Post Falls, Idaho; sister Jesale Moore of Hurst, Texas; brothers Joe A. Brasher and wife Kathy of San Angelo, Texas, and John W. Brasher of Dallas, Texas; seven granddaughters; one grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
