Nicholas came to Minnesota in the late 1870's with his parents. They settled in Carver County and in 1881 he married Caroline Bachmann. In 1882 they settled in Sibley County where he lived until his death in 1928. They had 4 children: Herman, Katie (Henry) Peltz, Lena (John) Meyer, and Mary (Hubert) Meyer. He was a director of the First State Bank of Arlington for several years.
