Prominent Long-Time Residents Honor Guests at Family Dinner At Hackett Home
Mrs. and Mrs. J. W. Ale, prominent residents of the district more than 50 years, today observed their golden wedding anniversary.
Mrs. and Mrs. W. T. Hackett entertained at a family dinner at noon today honoring Mr. and Mrs. Ale. Mrs. Hackett is a niece of Mr. Ale and her brothers-in-law and sisters.
Mrs. and Mrs. V. R Willey and Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Knight of Arcadia, California are here for the occasion. The dinner was at the Hackett home, 1628 South Maple. Vernon Post also was present.
The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Ale took place October 15, 1896 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Westerfield, who lived 10 miles northwest of Carthage. The Ales started housekeeping in the Mt. Moriah neighborhood where he farmed on an extensive scale. In 1913 they moved to a smaller acreage at Morgan Heights, just west of Broadview Country Club. In 1942 Mr. and Mrs. Ale purchased property at 813 Oak Street, where they now lived since.

When she was seven years old her parents came to this district and purchased the farm northwest of Carthage, where the daughter later was married. Prior to her marriage Mrs. Ale was a teacher in the old Washington school in the east part of town and also taught in the Central school, which later was razed to make way for the present high school building.
A Pennsylvanian by birth, Mr. Ale is a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Ale, who came here in 1878 from Bloomburg, and settled in the Mt. Moriah neighborhood. Mr. Ale was born November 26, 1860. The Samuel Ale home was five miles northwest of Carthage. Mr. Ale is the last of the immediate family. The late Clark Ale, Miss Elizabeth Ale and Mrs. Ann Chilcote were his brothers and sisters. In addition to the above mentioned nieces Mr. Ale also has a nephew, S. S. C. Chilcote of Basin Wyoming.

Passes Away at Home on Oak Street -Had Resided in Jasper County Almost 70 Years- Funeral Tomorrow Afternoon at Knell Service Home
J. W. Ale, 87, prominent retired Jasper county farmer who had lived in and near Carthage almost 70 years, passed away at 5:35 o'clock Saturday afternoon at his home, 813 Oak Street. He had been ill several months.
Mr. Ale was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Ale, who came to this district in 1878, from Bloomsburgh, PA. The son, J. W. Ale, was born in Bloomsburg, November 26, 1860. The family settled in the Mt. MOriah neighborhood on a farm five miles northwest of Carthage.
On October 15, 1896 Mr. Ale was married to Miss Cora Westerfield, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Westerfield, who lived 10 miles northwest of Carthage. They started housekeeping in the Mt. Funeral services for Mr. Ale will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow and burial will in Park Cemetery. The rev. R. H. Bodine, pastor of the pastor of the First Methodist church, will be in charge of the services.
