Paint Store Owner Dies
Dick B. Curtis, Forest Park avenue, owner and operator of the Curtis Wallpaper and Paint Store, 18 Washington street, died at 10:45 p.m. Friday in Henrotin hospital in Chicago after a short illness.
He was born Sept. 29, 1883, in Coloma, Mich., the son of Orrin and Ida (Jones) Curtis. He was married to the former Helen Erling of Valparaiso.
Surviving besides the widow are one brother, Ward, Niles, Mich.; one sister, Mrs. Herman Schmidt, Mount Clemens, Mich.; and two grandsons, Donald and David Curtis of South Bend. He was preceded in death by one son, Richard, and several brothers and sisters.
Curtis resided here several years coming from Chicago. He was a member of Porter Lodge 137, F. & A. M.; South Bend Lodge Perfection, 32nd degree, and the Valparaiso BPOE, 500.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bartholomew Funeral home with the Rev. Oliver Starn of the First Presbyterian church officiating.
Burial will take place in Graceland cemetery. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted.
Friends may call at the Bartholomew Funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday until time of services. The Valparaiso Elks lodge will hold memorial services at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
