Roy Broadie, Spirit Lake, Dead at 77
Roy Francis Broadie, 77, rural Spirit Lake, died yesterday at 12:56 p.m. at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, due to a heart condition. He had been in failing health the past three months.

Mr. Broadie was born April 8, 1891, on a farm in Polk County to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Broadie. The family moved to a farm near Ruthven when Mr. Broadie was a boy. He was educated at the Ruthven schools.

He was married Dec. 16, 1915 to Bessie Prather at Des Moines.

After their marriage the couple farmed near Ruthven and then moved to Emmet and Dickinson Counties, where they have farmed for the past 40 years.

Mr. Broadie retired about five years ago, but continued to live on his farm southeast of Spirit Lake.

He was a member of the Ruthven Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie, rural Spirit Lake; two sons, Maurice, Estherville; and Harlan, Clearwater, Fla.; four grandchildren; one brother, Fred, Ruthven; three sisters, Mrs. Ray Lawrence, Spencer; Mrs. Fay Bartleson, Grand Island, Neb., and Mrs. Hazel Munson, also of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Reese-Henry Funeral Chapel, Estherville.

Rev. Wayne Carlson, of the Spirit Lake Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Thursday until time of services on Friday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 2, 1968)
