Ex-Solon From Saluda Dies At 83

SALUDA — Jefferson Davis Griffith Sr., 83, of 610 Travis Ave., former state representative from Saluda County, died Friday.

Born in Saluda County, a son of the late Richard Coleman and Mary Campbell Griffith, he was a graduate of Old Zoar Academy, Wofford College, University of South Carolina Law School and was former solicitor of Eleventh Judicial Circuit. He founded the law firm of Griffith, Coleman and Griffith, was a member of Saluda Lions Club, chairman of Saluda County Bar Association, chairman of Saluda County Democratic Party and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty Grigsby Griffith; a son, Jefferson Davis Griffith Jr, of Saluda; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas I. "Lindy" Hutchison of Greensboro, N.C.; and two sisters, Mrs. Sue Crouch of Saluda and Mrs. Ona Wills of Monetta.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with burial in Travis Park Cemetery. — Ramey Funeral Home.
