MUNROE, William A., was born Aug. 24,
1893, in Saginaw, Mich. In early life he was
a member of the 125th Infantry Medical de-
tachment, 32nd Red Arrow division. For ex-
traordinary heroism in connection with mili-
tary operations against an armed enemy he
was cited and awarded the Distinguished
Service Cross by General John J. Pershing. His
later work incluled that of a dental tech-
nician and law enforcement work. From 1946
until 1953 he served as Sheriff of Saginaw
County. In 1953 he resigned to accept ap-
pointment as postmaster of Saginaw, which
position he held until his retirement in 1964.
He recently became a member of the
Saginaw Seventh-day Adventist Church.
He died June 8 following a lengthy illness.
His burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery in
Saginaw with military honors, June 11, Sur-
viving are his wife Effie Jane(Slavens); two sons, Merle and
Jack, both of Saginaw; and several other
relatives
