Martha was born April 2, 1848, in Wisconsin, daughter of John Woodford, born in England, and Lucinda Phillips, born in New York. She died Jan. 12, 1916, in Chetek, and was buried there in Lakeview Cemetery.

On Oct. 2, 1902, Martha was united in marriage to Benson L. Eighmy, place unknown. Benson was born Jan. 7, 1842 in Amsterdam, Montgomery Co., New York, son of Jarvis Eighmy, born in New York and Hannah M. Chase, born in New Hampshire. He died Sep. 20, 1934 at the Wisconsin Veteran's Home at Waupaca, Wis., aged 92 years, 8 months and 13 days, and was buried beside the remains of his wife Martha in Lakeview Cemetery. His military style gravestone is inscribed "B. L. Eighmy Co. F. 12 Reg. Wis. Vol. Inf. 1843 -- 1934." She and Benson were childless, but she was the mother of five children by her first husband, John W. Winchester, who had died in 1900.

This was the second marriage for Martha. Her first marriage was to John W. Winchester who had died in 1900. They were the parents of five children of whom the name of only one is known:

Millville W. Winchester, born Nov. 1875 in Wis.

In the 1900 U.S. Census, Martha Winchester was listed as a 52 year old boarding house keeper living on Le Sure Street in the City of Chetek, Barron County, Wisconsin. It was noted that she had been married 33 years, owned her boarding house free and clear and was the parent of five children, all of whom were living. Listed with her was her 24 year old son, Millville W. Winchester, born in November 1875, in Wisconsin.

Mrs. Martha M. Eighmy Woodford was born April 2, 1848 in this state. She was married to John W. Winchester Nov. 11, 1867 and to them were born five children, Geo. W., Charles E., Melvin W., Angie May, now Mrs. Thomes and Agnes B., now Mrs. Myers. John Winchester died in 1900. She was married to B. L. Eighmy, Oct. 2, 1902.

You that know her best know your loss most. She has been a great lover of home and for those she loved would sacrifice her very life as she did at the very last. The old soldiers will say a friend indeed has gone. She died Jan. 12, 1916. Her age was 67 years 7 months 10 days. The funeral was largely attended by friends from home and abroad.
