Remains of Mrs. W.S. Mayhall Brought to Walnut for Burial
Fern Pratt was born at Baraboo, Wis., Dec. 27, 1857. Was married to Chas. P. Lewis April 12, 1881. Mr. Lewis died in St. Louis, Mo., in 1901. To this union four children were born, three girls and one boy. Two of these loved ones died in infancy. Katie rests in the family lot at Muscatine, Iowa. Perry sleeps in Montana on the homestead proved up by the parents. Gertrude, now Mrs. C.C. Whitver, resides on a farm near Walnut. Mary, now Mrs. F.W. Gleissman, resides at Downer's Grove.
On April 6, 1905, at the Christian church in Walnut she was married to W.S. Mayhall by Rev. F.A. Sword.
They remained in Walnut until November 20, 1906, when they moved to Tamarack, Minn., where they have resided until her death at 7 a.m. Nov. 10,1911.
That this union was a happy one nothing further need be asked than that borne to step-father and step-mother by the two families of children. One special pride of Mrs. Mayhall was the love her step-children bore towards her. The ones nearest her an knowing her the best loved her most. She often expressed this pride to strangers when explaining the uniting of the two families.
She leaves to mourn her husband, two daughters, one sister Mrs. Nena Hart of Chicago, one brother Atlee Pratt of California with many other relatives and hosts of friends wherever she was located.
She was converted to the services of the Master under Rev. Sword's ministry and her life work here among you and in her new home will stand as a monument to her unselfishness and devotion to her family and her Savior.
The remains arrived at Walnut Tuesday morning, accompanied by her husband and children Mr. and Mrs. Frank Alshouse and her daughter Mrs. Gleissmann.
The funeral was held at the Christian church Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by the pastor Rev. F.H. DeVoe, and the remains were laid to rest in the new part of the Walnut cemetery.
