Son of Elizabeth McNamara (1820-1890) and Joseph Augustus Wrigley (1811-1886). He married Margaret Durack September 27, 1880 in St. Louis, Missouri and eventually they would have ten children, including: Charlotte, Eugene Joseph, Willa Mary, John, Margaret, Helen, Mary Isabelle, Joseph, and Elizabeth.

By 1900, he and his family were living in Atlanta, where he worked as a newspaper engraver. The household included Joseph Wrigley, age 45, born in England; M A, born August 1859 in Iowa; Eugene, born June 1882; Marguerite, born August 1890; Nellie, born November 1892; Mary Bell, born November 1895; Elizabeth, age 7/12; and Elizabeth Durack, age 59, born in Ireland. They moved to Jacksonville, Florida by 1910.

In 1930, he and Maggie were living in Jacksonville, Florida. Their 30 year old daughter Mary Belle was living at home with them and working as a nurse.
