Married George Melvin Canova, 5 June 1953, Manti, Sanpete, Utah
Married Carl Dewan
Obituary - Dorothy Dewan (formerly: Dorothy Isabel Gray Canova), age 78, passed away peacefully this morning at 5:10 am, at the home of her daughter, Susan Kessler Canova, in Orem, Utah.
Dorothy is survived by her brothers Ronald Gray and Howard Gray and her sisters Gloria Gray Emery and Kathryn Gray Shackleford, and her husband Carl Dewan, and her former husband George Canova, and her five children: David Canova, Steven Canova, Susan Canova Kessler, Paul Canova and Kathryn Canova Greaves, plus 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy’s passing comes with mixed emotions, since her “quality of life” has slowly deteriorated during these past few years as a result of her battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Dorothy has been convalescing in the home of her daughter Susan and her family in Orem, Utah, for the past 4 months. This has allowed her to be closer to the rest of her children, most of who live in Utah. Also noteworthy is that Susan’s home is in the same town where Dorothy was also raised as a child, the oldest of 5 children, and where she graduated from high school and where she continued to live as a young adult until she was married. Dorothy’s parents, Francis and Mary Ellen Gray also spent most of their remaining years in Orem as well, so in a real sense, Dorothy had truly come back “Home”.
Dorothy was genuinely happy to be near many of the people she has loved most of her life, especially with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extend family.
During these past few months, Dorothy’s health care was also supplemented with regular visits by home health care and hospice care nurses and other health care professionals.
We are all very indebted to Susan and her family for taking on the monumental and emotionally charged responsibility of caring for our Mother in her home during these final few months of her life.
