Rocklin businessman, Melvin C. Dawson, died Friday, August 5, 2011 at Kaiser Hospital. His death was the result of an accidental fall.
Mel was born in Orosi, Calif., in 1930. He grew up in Dinuba, Calif. At the time of his death he was 81.
Mr. Dawson graduated from Fresno State University with a BA in marketing in 1952. He was drafted into the army and served in Okinawa from 1952 to 1954.

His business career started with Standard Oil of California in 1955. He moved to Sonora, Calif., as a Chevron distributor in 1971. Mr. Dawson became a Chevron Jobber in Roseville, Auburn and Grass Valley Calif., in 1981 and continued to work until three weeks before his death.

He enjoyed the stock market, landscaping and his golden retriever Luke. He loved to read and was a lifelong learner. He supported the S.P.C.A. and Future Farmers of America.

Mel is survived by his wife of 58 years Eleanor, and their daughters Lindy and her husband David, Kasey and her husband Cam, and son Steve. He had three grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer and Michael. He was preceded in death by his six siblings and his daughter-in-law Stephany.

A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Newcastle Cemetery in Newcastle, Calif.
Chapel of the Valley in Roseville is handling arrangements.
