LAUREL — Charles Luther Holifield

Charles Luther (C. L.) Holifield, 88, of Laurel, went to be with his Heavenly Father Sunday, August 7, 2011 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2011, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Rev. Leon Carmical and Rev. Shane Singleton will officiate.
Mr. Holifield was employed at the Laurel Postal Service for 30 years. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II for four years. He was a member of the Parkview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member and interim choir director. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Ela Hill Holifield; his parents, Joshua David "Dave" and Lillie Victoria Holifield; brothers, Willie, Beasley, Algie, and Josh; and sisters, Mary King, Emma Jenkins, Julia Craven, Vella Beard and Eula Kilpatrick.
He is survived by his second wife, Violet Sharp Holifield; children, Denese and husband, Gary Gibson of Colville, Wash., Nancy and husband, Earl McCormick of Laurel and Sherry and husband, Byron Dickerson of Gilbertown, Ala.; six grandchildren, David Gibson and wife, Heather, Angel Montgomery and husband, Joel, Brad McCormick and wife, Cristy, Brock McCormick and wife, Mechelle, Jennifer James and husband, Jody and Robbie Dickerson and wife, Sheri; 14 great -grandchildren; step-son, Brian Rivers and wife, Patty of Hattiesburg; and six step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Gibson, Brad McCormick, Brock McCormick, Robbie Dickerson, Jody James, Neil Holifield and Ricky Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class of Parkview Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at Memory Chapel of Laurel, which is in charge of arrangements.
