GEORGE FRANK "Buck" CARTER, 84, lifelong resident of Millington, died on Monday, August 8, 2011 at his home. He was born November 22, 1926 in Pittsburgh Landing, Hardin County, TN. He retired from the U.S. Navy after having served 20 years. He was in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After military retirement, he served on the Millington Police Department and the Millington Fire Department. he retired after 25 years from the City of Millington in June of 1991. He was a 50 year member of the Munford Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and a life member of VFW Post 71715 in Millington. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Otha and Tava Jordan Carter, two sisters, Marie Hayes and Margarette Cooper, three brothers, Robert Earl, Jim, and Jordan. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Carter; two sons, Charles (Linda) of Millington and Gary (Ginger) of Brighton; one stepson, Danny Goff (Betsy); one sister, Janie Baker (Carl); two brothers, Jack and George Earl. He is survived by four grandchildren, Tammy Lee, Anna Catherine Glass, Will Carter, Samantha Goff, and three great-grandchildren, Amanda Barnes, Taylor Lee, Dallas Lee and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 11 from 5-8 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. at Munford Funeral Home, Millington Chapel. Funeral will be held at Millington First United Methodist Church on Thursday, August 12 at 10 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Shrine Burn Center or the charity of the donor's choice.
