A German doctor who was catholic was supposed to have kidnapped Lizzie, probably eloped around 1800 and her father, Adam, hunted 4 years to find her. He found her in Georgia, took some of his slaves, went to Georgia and killed the doctor who had married Lizzie.

He brought Lizzie, her son Moses and her daughter Rebecca back to North Carolina and raised them as Cloningers. Adam never recognized the marriage as he had a right to in that day. He also left her out of his will.
