Harvey Lee Ashmore was the eldest of five children born to Steven Lee Ashmore and Minnie Reno Ashmore. Harvey was born on the Bell Farm near Manor, Texas. He graduated from Nixon Clay Business College in Austin, Texas. In 1936, Harvey married Jewel Solomon. They had two natural children and one adopted child. They later moved to Galveston, Texas, where Harvey worked for Todd Shipyard.
Obituary: Harvey Lee Ashmore Sr., 86 of Galveston, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital in Galveston. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the Memorial Room of Broadway Funeral Home. The Rev. Herbert Polinard will officiate. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Alta Loma. Visitation is set for after 5 p.m. today at Broadway Funeral Home. Born Feb. 5, 1904 in Manor, Mr. Ashmore was retired from Todd Shipyards as a machinist. Survivors include his daughters, Dorothy Ashmore and Virginia Mudd, both of Galveston; son, Harvey Lee Ashmore Jr., of Galveston; daughter-in-law, Nancy C. Ashmore; sisters, Elizabeth Anderson of Austin and Stella Stringer of Indiana; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
