Hilda Johnston Mills -MACON - Hilda Johnston Mills, of Twiggs County, Georgia, died August 7, 2011 at her home at the age of 95. -She was born in Bullard, in Twiggs County, on November 1, 1915, the youngest of fourteen children of William Warren Johnston, Sr. and Mary Lowe Johnston. She graduated with honors from Young Harris Junior College, Young Harris, Georgia, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Science from LaGrange College, La Grange, Georgia. Her post-graduate studies were done at Emory University in Atlanta and George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Before her marriage to the late Harry A. Mills II, she taught science, mathematics, English, and Latin in the Stewart County and Jones County High Schools. Mrs. Mills retired from teaching after 10 years of service at Lena H. Cox Elementary School in Atlanta. -Mrs. Mills was a life-long member of the Beech Springs United Methodist Church in Bullard, and also served on the board of the Twiggs County Service Center. She was a charter member of the Autism Society of America and was an active volunteer in the National Autistic Society and in related organizations. In 1999 Mrs. Mills and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Bullard, where they had lived since Mr. Mills' retirement in 1974 from the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C. -She is survived by their son Ralph Waldo Emerson Mills of Macon, and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the country. Memorial gifts, if desired, may be made to the Beech Springs United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Joyce G. Gresham, 10521 GA Hwy 129, Dry Branch, Georgia 31020. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 11, 2011, at 2P.M., at Beech Springs Methodist Church on Bullard Road in Twiggs County.
