MICHIGAN CITY — Authorities say a 40-year-old fisherman was found dead in a northern Indiana lake.

The fisherman's body was found Sunday evening in Wyland Lake in the Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area near North Webster after an empty boat was spotted with its motor running.

WNDU-TV and WSBT-TV report divers needed several hours to find the man, whose identity and cause of death wasn't immediately released.

A Syracuse man and an 8-year-old Fort Wayne boy died in separate water-related incidents Sunday.

Conservation officers and police found the man's body in the Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area. The boy drowned in Lake Michigan.

Raymond Barker Jr., 40, of Syracuse, went fishing about 6:30 a.m. in Wyland Lake and a kayaker found Barker's boat empty and its trolling motor still running about 2 p.m., according to a report from the Department of Natural Resources.

The DNR said the cause and manner of death are unknown at this time and will be available after autopsy and toxicology results come back, according to the report.

Wyland Lake features a boat ramp and is just north of 700 North in Syracuse.

The Tri-County Fish and Wildlife Area covers 3,546 acres of land, with 650 acres of lakes and ponds, according to the DNR's website. Its 10 natural lakes have water depths of up to 75 feet, the DNR said.
