Mr. Vance died at his home last Friday morning at 4 o'clock and was buried at the Butler cemetery Sunday at 2 o'clock. Alton Empire (Alton, KS), 30 March 1905

H.A. Vance departed this life last Friday morning, funeral services were held at the house Sunday, conducted by Rev. Isaac Kurtz, the remains were laid to rest in the Butler cemetery, There was a large procession of people in attendance.

Lou and Willard Vance, Lytle Range and wife [Alice], the latter a daughter and Jacob and Willard Vance and Mrs. Chilcott [Rebecca], brothers and sisters of H.A. Vance, deceased, attended the funeral last Friday.

Willard Vance drove seven miles to get a man to take care of his stock after he received the telegram of his brothers death, then hired fresh teams at each town on the road costing him $25.00, and arrived here from northeast Colorado, before his brother did from southwest Nebraska.

Ephram Bates and wife [Harriet] of Smith Center, the latter a sister of Mrs. Vance together with their grown children attended the funeral Sunday.

Obituary. Henry Alexander Vance, second son of Geo. and Elizabeth Vance, was born in Monroe county, W. V. Feb. 21. 1834. Removed with his parents to Goshen, Elkhart County, Ind., when a small boy. In the spring of 1843 moved with his family to Jefferson county Iowa. At the age of 20 was converted and' joined the M. E. church. In 1858 was married to Phileneah Frazey who died in Washington county Iowa, July 15, 1869. Seven children were born to this union, two of whom died in infancy. Oct. 7 1874, he was united in marriage in Fairfield Iowa, to Manara Frazey. In 1875 he moved from Washington county, Iowa, to Osborne county, Kan., and located in Hawkeye township, at which place he has resided until his death. To this union was born one son Earnest, and he, with his mother, one sister, five brothers, two of whom were not present at the funeral, are left to mourn the loss of a devoted husband a kind and judicious father: the community a noble citizen; the church, of which he has long been a member, a loyal, jealous supporter, all have lost a devoted Christian. All would do well to emulate and follow his Godly example. And truly it may be said of him, "His works will follow him.
