Hardy Dies of Wound
Funeral services for George Phillip Hardy, 49-year-old farmer who died of a shotgun wound Tuesday night, were held at the Perry Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon. Services were conducted by Elder ---- E. Darity, with the Rev. J.B. Smith and the Rev. Allen J. Freeman officiating. Burial was in Evergreen remetery (sic should be Cemetery) here.
Mr. Hardy was found at his home with a shotgun still clutched in his hand and Sheriff C.C. Chapman said evidence indicated that the wound was self-inflicted. Mr. Hardy had served as a jurior in Houston Superior Court this week. A coronorer's jury held Wednesday that the wound was self-inflicted.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Griffin Hardy; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Hardy, Sr.; one brother, J.C. Hardy, Jr.; and two sisters. Mrs. J.D. Linton and Mrs. S.E. Skipper.
Mr. Hardy was a member of Houston Lodge, F. and A.M. and had been a resident of Houston county all his life.
Pallbearers were Herbert Spillers, Marvin Griffin, Tommie Hunt, Louis Jacobs, William Terrell and Alton Hardy.
Per his WWI draft registration, he was born at Byron, Houston Co., GA. That area could now be Peach Co. or it could be the Centerville area since it had a Byron RFD address at that time frame.
