A graveside service for former Yamhill resident Leonard Orlin Koberstein of Forest Grove will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Forest View Cemetery, Forest Grove, with the Rev. Fred Hornshuh officiating. A reception will follow in the Forest Grove Alterra Wynwood residential community, 3110 19th Ave.

Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home, Forest Grove, will be open for visitation until 7 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

Mr. Koberstein died Sept. 7, 2003, in his home. He was 85.

He was born Feb. 4, 1918, in Gaston, the son of Albert M. and Mildred May LaFleur Koberstein. He was raised and educated in Gaston.

He and Virginia M. Vanaudenhaegen were married Oct. 14, 1937, in Vancouver, Wash.

After marrying, he lived in Hillsboro, then in Gales Creek. He later farmed on the Broken Gate Ranch in the Gaston area. He moved to Yamhill in 1993 and to Forest Grove in 2001. He worked in farming most of his life and was a long-haul truck driver for World Wide Van Lines from 1965 to 1970.

Mr. Koberstein enjoyed flying and belonged to the Civil Air Patrol. He also liked hunting, fishing and motor home travel.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Yates of Cove Orchard and Shirley Denham of Eugene; a sister, Mildred Whitmore of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1999; two sons, Larry Koberstein in 1954 and Gary "Beanie" Koberstein in 1983; a grandson, Jerry Yates in 1994; two brothers and three sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Oregon, 7420 S.W. Bridgeport Road No. 200, Tualatin, OR 97224-7711.
