Katherine "Kay" Warren Hukill Burton, 89 years of age, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life peacefully on Thursday, August 4th, 2011, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in the presence of her loving daughters.

Katherine was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on March 24th, 1922, daughter of the late Frank Young Hukill and Dollie Cravens Hukill.

She was united in marriage for 62 years to the late, Bernard A. Burton, on April 21st, 1949, at the First Baptist Church of Lexington, Kentucky.

Katherine was of the Baptist faith attending First Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky as a child and was a member of First Baptist Church of Somerset, Kentucky. She was an accomplished seamstress, creating entire wedding ensembles in Lexington, Kentucky prior to her marriage. She also displayed her creative abilities through flower arranging, serving on the flower committee at First Baptist Church, and opening Olde Towne Florist. Katherine was an active member of the Somerset Woman's Club for many years having served in many capacities including club president. Her greatest joy was her family, especially spoiling her grandchildren.

Kay was survived by two daughters, Mary Jane (husband, John) Brown and Linda (husband, Bruce) Jasper; two grandchildren, John Brown II (and wife, Inace) and Mary Katherine "Katie" Jasper Smith (and husband, Dylan); one great grandchild was expected in September to John and Inace Brown.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, she was survived by one sister, Dorothy (and the late, John "Jay") Tackett; four sisters-in-law, Jewell (and the late, Gene) Bramel, Montie (and the late, Rev. Leon) Wesley, Lillian (and Tom) Morrow, and Christine (and Ben) Shadoan; one brother-in law, Arlen V. Burton; and special friend and loving caregiver to Katherine and the family, Beverly Stewart; and a host of other family and friends who mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard A. Burton, who departed this life on June 11th, 2011; several siblings and their spouses, T.D. (and Martha) Hukill, Frank Young Hukill Jr., and Mary Willis (and Willard) Hopper.

Visitations were held on Monday, August 8th, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Pulaski Funeral Home in Somerset, Kentucky.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 8th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with William Adcock officiating.

Burial followed in the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky.
