Minister Leatherwood attended Baldwin County Training School in Daphne, Alabama. He was employed by General Motors Corporation for thirty-two years. He loved to fellowship with his family, church and friends. Some of his favorite sports were fishing, basketball, wrestling and football.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories faithful and loving wife, Diane Leatherwood; children, Jovell (Karisha) and John Jr. Leatherwood; Shawn (Isaac) Fulks and Carlisla Woodard; fourteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; siblings, Edna (Clarence) Smith, James (Ann) English, George, Jerome, Ledell (Linda) and Herbert Lowe; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including two closest friends, Milton Simmons and Deacon Earl Wayne Miller.
Minister Leatherwood was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, and later united with Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, there he served in the capacity as Deacon. Monument of Faith Missionary Baptist Church became his final place of worship, where God called him into the ministry. He worked faithfully, diligently and consistently as an Associate Minister. He was Superintendent of Sunday School for several years, taught Day Bible class for numerous years, was a member of Crystal Lake District and Oakland County Ministerial Fellowship, and was a member of Monument of Faith Male Chorus. He fought a good fight, he finished his course, and he kept the faith.
Minister Leatherwood was preceded in death by daughter, Nikki Lance-Leatherwood; parents, Queenie English-Lowe and Harrison Leatherwood; siblings, Shirley, Otis and Melvin Lowe and step-mother Kizzie Leatherwood.
