GEORGE H. SNYDER, VETERAN PHOTOGRAPHER, PASSES AWAY
George H. Snyder 61, Atchison photographer for more than 30 years died unexpectedly at 4:30 o'clock this morning at his home, 1037 Parallel Street. Mr. Snyder had been in ill health following an operation for the removal of a goitre six years ago. He was forced to retire from active business a month ago, but his condition was not considered grave.
Definite funeral arrangements had not been made today. The body is at the Harouff & Buis funeral home.
George Hamilton Snyder was born at Holton, Oct. 22, 1871. He learned the trade of photography under Will Ireland at Holton, and was in business for himself for a short time before coming to Atchison in 1897 to work in the Kleckner Studio.
Following his marriage, June 26, 1901, at Netawaka, Mr. Snyder went into business for himself and continued to operate a studio here until recently. Mrs. Snyder's maiden name was Sarah Gruver. She had been associated with Mr. Snyder in the business in recent years.
Mr. Snyder is survived by his widow; his father, Harv Snyder, Houston, Texas; and by the following brothers and sisters, Ed Snyder, El Dorado; Mrs. Ruth Seigel, Soldier; and Charles Snyder, Mrs. Mary Barnes and Mrs. Walter Nail all of Houston.A daughter Isabell Frances born 1905 died in infancy,
Mr. Snyder was a member of the American Photographers Association and the Masonic and Odd Fellows Lodges. He had been a member of the Atchison Christian Church for 28 years.
In addition to his large private clientele, Mr. Snyder had been the official photographer for St. Benedict's College for 30 years.
