She was the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Gernant Sr., coming to America with her parents when only four years old. She was educated in the rural schools in Hamoton township, Rock Island county, Illinois and was confirmed in the Zion Lutheran church.
Decendent was united in marriage to August H. Magerkurth at Hampton, Illinois on September 8, 1867, living there some time on a farm. Later they moved to Clinton County, Iowas and then to a farm in Edford township, Henry county. They also resided on a farm in Geneseo township, coming to the home on West North street in this city in 1901.
The union was blessed with thirteen children, five of whom died in infansy. Mr Magerkurth died at the North street home October 8, 1923.
She leaves to mourn her death, eight children, Henry J. Magerkurth, Mrs Emma M. Fisher and Louis Magerkurth, all of Geneseo, Mrs Minnie Stenzel and George Magerkurth, of Osco, Mrs Margaret Schmidt, of Moline, Mrs Anna Beck and Mrs Clara Brien, of Rock Island, besides fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Myers chapel, with public service at 2:30 at Concordia Lutheran church, Rev. H. J. Elling, officiating. The beautuful vocal selections were presented by Mrs Alice Greene, accompanied on the organ by Mrs Dorothy Gernant.
Internment wss in the family lot in North cemetary. Pallbearers were Albert Magerkurth, Edward Magerkurth, H. Stenzel, and R. Schmidt, grandsons of the deceased, and Maurice Gernant and Wallace Ruerschman, husbands of grand daughters of Mrs Magerkurth.
