John Arthur Young died Dec. 24 in his home in Hurley at the age of 68 years. He was a lifelong resident and farmer of the Hurley community. He leaves two sons, Byron Young of Independence and Raymond of Columbia; two daughters, Miss Fern Young of Galena, and Mrs. Marion Bennett of Washington, D.C.; four brothers, W.H. of Clever, J.N. of Ozark, Charley of Hurley and Lawrence of Happy Camp, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. J.R. Welch of Golden City and Mrs. Mary Kemp of Hurley; and three grandchildren, Anna and Billy Bennet and David Bruce Young. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon in the Hurley high school auditorium with the Rev. Charles Beech of Reeds Springs officiating. Burial was in the Short cemetery near Hurley under the direction of the Harris Funeral Home of Clever. Bearers were Earnest Hare, M.T. Parsons, Loren Gibson, Maurice Wiley, Leon Langley, and O.E. Anderson. Mr. Young was born Feb. 12, 1881, near Brown Springs, the son of John and Nancy Young.
