Born to Thomas and Johanna in Hjorring, Denmark, Gust was only 3weeks old when his parents and he immigrated to America. He farmed near Barrett, MN, Elk Lake township, Grant County. The old Abercrombie stage coach trail ran right through his farm. He and his first wife Julia, Annie, had 4 children--a girl and boy, Joseph, died in infancy; Edwin and Helmer. Annie died of TB in 1901. Gust married Ida Strand and adopted her son Severin.
