Robert M. "Roy" McElwee
Robert M. "Roy" McElwee Devoted Family Man Robert M. "Roy" McElwee, 88, of Chester Springs, formerly of Broomall, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2011. He was the loving husband of the late Ellen McGuigan McElwee, with whom he had shared 53 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2005. Born in Port Glasgow, Scotland, he was the son of the late William A. and Esther McNeil McElwee. Mr. McElwee was a 1941 graduate of John Bartram High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the European Theater of Operations under Gen. George S. Patton. Following his separation from the Army, he began working as an instrument mechanic for Atlantic Richfield, retiring in 1979 after 33 years of service. He also worked for St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Broomall and volunteered at Bryn Mawr Hospital. He was a member of St. Andrew's Church in Glenmoore. Lovingly referred to as "Pop Pop" he was a devoted grandfather who enjoyed going to all his grandchildren's activities. Another favorite past time was watching his beloved Phillies. He was loved by all and made a big impact on the many lives he touched. He will be greatly missed. Survivors: He is survived by his sons, Bruce (Amy) of Downingtown and Andrew (Erin) of Chester Springs, by daughter, Joanne Ardekani (Reza), also of Chester Springs; by his brother, John McNeil McElwee of Richmond, VA; and by eight beloved grandchildren: Lauren, Robert, Drew, Alex, Douglas, Adam, Cory and Rebecca. He was predeceased by his brother, Lt. William A. McElwee. Service: A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 8, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 7 St. Andrew's Lane, Glenmoore. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, and on Monday prior to the service from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Interment: will be in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill.
