James (went byJim) Ellington Stevenson Sr. was the fourth of eleven known children of the Rev. Robert Montgomery Young Stevenson Sr. (1816-1889) and Sarah Harper Guinn (1825-1901), who married 24 Nov 1843 at Union County, Arkansas.

Jim was known to have married five times, losing all his wives to death. Very few records exist of this family, mainly family oral history copied down in the 1950s and 1960s. It is not known if Jim actually has a grave marker at the Sweeny Cemetery, but two of his children that are buried there do have grave markers.
