Mr. Lanning, who is 68 years age, had been in very poor health for some two months past, but recently had been feeling better. Last night he said he was feeling as well as he ever did in his life before. This morning, shortly after he had arisen from his night's rest, he went out upon the back porch and was soon heard by those inside the house to be coughing quite badly. Before his son, who had been notified, was able to arrive upon the scene, Mr. Lanning fell dead upon the porch. The cause is not known positively.
The funeral will take place on Monday and the interment will be at Ewing, from which place the Trenton Lannings came.
William W. Lanning leaves a wife and three children, who are Mrs. McCarty, of Easton, Pa.; G. W. Lanning, the beltmaker, of Bank street, and Harry Lanning, who works for his brother George. The deceased was salesman for his son, G. W., the beltmaker, and had held that position for several years previous to his death. He was also the uncle of ex-Assemblyman James W. Lanning, of this city.
