Reasons for DOB change: I realize his death certificate pointed to by the link in his bio has a DOV of 21 Jun 1853, but 1) he is in the Oct 1850 Census as a 3-yr old (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MZ4X-LYQ), 13 in the July 1860 Census (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M82D-B97), etc. Obviously, someone got the date wrong when filling out the death certificate (which they tried to correct later with the gravestone). But even that is wrong in that his ages would end in '4' in all his census records if it was 1846 - instead they all end in '3' (see https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/sources/G4RN-4SS for the remaining census records). So 1847 is the correct birth year.
