A native of Inman, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Earl Alverson (1884-1961) and Bessie Mae (Miller) Alverson (1889-1968) and widow of Lucius Lee "Luke" Edwards (1910-1969).
She retired from Spartanburg Sportswear and was a member of First Baptist Church of North Spartanburg.
Surviving are four daughters, Ida Mae Cartee (1929-2011), Rachel Lanford, Evelyn Mosley, Nancy Garrett; one son, Robert V. Edwards; one brother, Ray Alverson; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held October 30, 2002, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Inman, South Carolina, conducted by the Rev. Terry Lanford.
