Daughter of James Harris and Elizabeth Welch

Joseph Simeul (Simeon) Johnson was born 10 Jun 1839 in Coosa Co., AL. He was the son of Simeon Johnson, Jr and Amanda Ann Bradshaw. He married Mary Mollie Harris (from Georgia) 14 Jul 1858 in Elmore, Elmore, AL. She was the daughter of James Harris and Elizabeth Welch.

In the 1860 Coosa Co., AL census he is listed with his wife and child "A C" who was one month old. I would assume this would be Arch Clinton but all records indicate Arch Clinton was not born until 1875. I am unsure who this child was.

Joseph and Mary were living next door to a member of the Bradshaw family and not far from the Aycock family (families that intermarried into the Johnson family.)

On 25 Sep 1861, there is a record of a J S Johnson Mustering in the 17th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Company H in Alabama, Roll #191, Archive Collection SG025026-9.

They then had the following children: 16 Dec 1865, they had a son Joseph Robert Johnson, a daughter, Susie Anna Louvinia, in 1867 and in 1869 had another son, Benjamin R. They were still living in Coosa Co., AL.

In the 1870 Coosa Co., AL census Joseph S is listed with his wife, Mary, and children, Joseph age 5, Susannah, age 3, and little Benjamin at 8 months old. (No mention of A C from the 1860 Census)

They then had the following children: Oliver Ezekial b 1871, Josie b 1873, Arch Clinton b 1875, Philip b 1878, Thomas (or John) "Dock" Martin b 1880.

In the 1880 Elmore Co., AL census, Joseph is listed with wife Mary and children: Joseph age 15, Susie age 13, Bennie Age 11, Oliver a 9. Josie age 7, Archie age 5, Philip age 2 and Thomas M age 2 months.

There was no 1890 Census for Texas.

Before the 1900 census they had the following children: Nicodemus b 1884, Boabie Della b 1887.

In 1900 they are listed in the Garden Valley, Smith Co., TX census with children, Nicodemus age 15, Martin (possibly Thomas Martin "Dock"?) age 19, and Ollie age 15 (possibly Philip).

He is listed on the Texas Death Index with the death date of 22 Dec 1909 in Smith Co., TX.
