John Melvin Scicek passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at his Port Orchard, Washington home where he resided with his second wife, Ana Martinez (Cruz) Scicek, whom he married on 30 May 2001 in Kitsap County, Washington.
He was born on April 29, 1929, in Hamilton, Montana.
His mother was his first teacher, teaching him on how to fish and handle a rifle.
John prized a close relationship with his parents, Margorie Richie and stepfather, Stanley Scicek. Both of whom were active participants in John’s rearing.
John well-regarded his service in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict.
After leaving the Army, he worked for Civil Service in Guam, Alaska, and Washington, as a high power electrician.
He was also in his element in nature; John could (and would) comfortably spend many weeks meditating in northwestern wilderness.
Along with his former smokejumper duties and parachuting fanfare, it is notable that John was fan of perpetual activity and otherwise good thrills.
But ultimately, and unforgettably, John Scicek could be marked by his appetite for receiving and doling a good joke every once in a while.
His first wife, Clotilde (Tillie) Quifunas Scicek (married from 1958 until her passing in 1994) predeceased John. their only known children was Robert John Scicek, and a stepdaughter.
He is survived by his second wife, Ana, two stepdaughters, and several grand and great grandchildren.
Burial will be at Sunset Lane Cemetery, in Port Orchard, Washington
