A daughter of Daniel Bennett and Mary Holsclaw, Nancy was married circa 1783 in Fauquier County, Virginia to Samuel Nay. Samuel Nay appeared on the tax lists of Fauquier County, Virginia from 1784 until 1787, when he removed to Kentucky with his wife's extended family. In 1789 he was surety and witness to the marriage bond of his sister-in-law, Mary Bennett, and her husband, Benjamin Duncan. In 1803 Samuel purchased 150 acres on Harrods Creek, in Jefferson County (in present-day Oldham County), Kentucky, and in 1808 he was an appraiser of the estate of his brother-in-law, Sanford Bennett of Jefferson County, Kentucky. While living in the Harrods Creek neighborhood, he assisted Arrington Phelps with keeping the public roads around Woolfolk's Mill in repair. He removed to Johnson County, Indiana, with his son, Rev. Asa Bradford Nay (1799-1876), who married Lucinda Whitesides (1806-1876).

Nancy's father Daniel Bennett (d. 1819) leased 100 acres in Leeds Manor on 30 Nov 1771 from Thomas Lord Fairfax for £0.20.0 yearly rent, for the lifetimes of himself, his wife Mary, and his son Sanford Bennett. On 17 Aug 1775 Daniel and Mary, along with her brother Joseph Holsclaw and his wife Caty, sold ⅔ of a tract in Culpeper County for £20; the original tract, containing 987 acres granted by the Proprietors Office on 5 Mar 1753, was issued in the names of Henry, Joseph, and Mary Holsclaw, the sons and daughter of John Holsclaw (1709-1752). Daniel and Mary were residents of Mercer County, Kentucky from 1789 until 1793, but by 1795 settled in Shelby County, Kentucky. A reclusive hunter who was rarely seen (his presence noticed by his baying hounds), Daniel Bennett died in the autumn of 1819. These later details were discovered from surviving family correspondence.

Nancy's known siblings: (1) Sanford Bennett (d. 1808) of Harrods Creek, Jefferson Co., KY, (m. Anne Crim on 14 Jan 1787 in Fauquier Co., VA), (2) Mary Bennett (m. Benjamin Duncan on 14 Feb 1789 in Mercer Co., KY), (3) Chloe Bennett (m. Evan Thompson on 25 May 1792 in Mercer Co., KY), and (4) Lucy Bennett (m. Alexander Sage on 4 Mar 1793 in Mercer Co., KY).

Nancy (Bennett) Nay's grandfather was likely William Bennett (c.1713-1768/70), Gent., of Quantico Run, in Dettingen Parish, Prince William County, Virginia.
