He came to Hebron in 1878 and married Miss Lizzie Green in 1883, she died a few months after their marriage. Later "Charley" located to Graham Co. KS where he married Miss Dell Minnear, she died one year later. Engaged in business in Hill City, county seat for several years when he married Miss Eliza Gordon on 25 Feb 1892, who survives.
Six children born, Mrs. Clara Frey, living 2 miles S of Hebron, William Marie, Gordon Mildred and Harry Steward who were all at his bedside when he passed.
Besides his immediate family, he leaves his mother, Mrs. M. F. Smith; only sister, Mrs. F. A. Powell; his only brother, John H Steward; half-brother, Earl E. Smith; all living here and present at the time of his death.
About 30 years ago he became a Christian and united with the Church of Christ in Hebron, NE. In 1899 he moved his wife and two children to Hebron, NE and for the past fifteen years resided on a farm where he died. About 12 years ago he was attacked with the dread disease, locomotor-ataxia, and for several years been a helpless, but uncomplaining invalid. A conscientious and practical Christian, a kind devoted father, a true friend and will long be remembered for his estimable characteristics. Member of the Masonic and A.O.U.W lodges of Hebron.
Services were Sunday, 24 Oct at the Hebron Church of Christ, burial at Hebron Cemetery.
