Samuel was born to James & Elizabeth Hiple Anspaugh.
Samuel fought in the Civil War. Enlisted as a private, August 24, 1864, Company U, 128th Ohio Infantry Regiment. Mustered out, May 6, 1865,Tod Barracks in Columbus, OH.
Samuel was a farmer; live stock dealer; landowner; Hotel Owner; and Cement Factory owner and operator in Yocemento, KS. He owned and operated the Midland Hotel in Wilson, KS.
He married Martha Linda Kollar on February 14, 1861, in Tuscarawas County, OH. He filed for divorce on June 16, 1890. Sam and a couple of his brothers left Ohio and moved to Kansas in 1879.
He married Jenny Weeks Marsh, January 1, 1891 in Russell County, KS.
