Garner Rites
Slated Today

Charlie Houston Garner, 83, died Saturday afternoon in a Lubbock hospital, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Nov. 18 on Lake J. B. Thomas road.
His death pushed the 1960 Howard County traffic death toll to 12.
He had been a resident of the Vincent community since 1940 and was an active farmer and rancher, helping to build the original Big Spring YMCA building.
Born Sept. 13, 1877, he was a first cousin to John Nance Garner, ex-vice president of the United States, and had lived in Colorado City prior to his move to Vincent.
Funeral services were to be held Monday at 4 p.m. in the Nalley-Pickle Chapel with Bro. W. O. Batten, minister of the Coahoma Church of Christ, officiating. Interment will be in the City Cemetery under the direction of Nalley-Pickle Funeral Home.
He is survived by his widow, Florence Ann Garner, Vincent; two sons, Charles W. Garner, Seminole, Robert Garner, Gallup, N.M.; four daughters, Mrs. Ruby Godwin, Vincent, Mrs. Lillis Jones, Ira, Mrs. Pearl Brown, Vincent, Mrs. Mirl Springfield, Weatherford; one brother, Elliot Garner, Floresville; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Worsham, Laredo, Mrs. Senie Ferguson, Cotulla, Mrs. Nora white, Abilene, Mrs. Etta Roberson, Snyder; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Grandsons were to serve as pallbearers.
