Betty Jean Chatfield, 94, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Bickford Cottage, Muscatine, Iowa.

Betty Jean Smith was born May 10, 1923 in Letts, Iowa to Gale and Mildred (Hahn) Smith. Betty graduated for the Columbus Junction High School in 1940. In August of 1941 Betty was united in marriage to Vernon L. Chatfield in Missouri. She was a member of Hope Bible Church where she played the piano and taught Sunday school, she was also a member of the Farm Bureau. Betty enjoyed mowing her lawn, gardening, farming, leading a bible club called Child Evangelism in Columbus Junction, Conesville and Fradonia, and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandchild, Lyle Bower; and sister, Verlee Pierce Wells.
