Mo Death Certif #912

s/o Reuben and Delanna (Meador) Bennett

b/o John, Sarah, and Fountain

m. Eliza on June 8, 1870 at the old Baptist Church in Patterson, Mo.

f/o Louisa, Noah Washington, Sarah Annie, William Edward, Etta M, Tyrah, Lula Delana, John Harrison, Gertrude Elizabeth, and Irvin (Louisa and Tyrah died in infancy)

Elijah lived near his parents after his marriage to Eliza in Patterson. Sometime after 1877 he bought a farm in the Bellview Valley and remained there until the early 1900's. Selling this farm they moved to Pilot Knob and Elijah stayed at this location until shortly after Eliza's death. He then began living with his children. His death occurred while living with daughter Gertrude.

Elijah was a religious man and it is known that he traveled all over southern Missouri helping to start churches and Sunday schools. He cared so deeply for children that he taught them about Jesus in his own Sunday school class and they must have cared for Elijah too, as they came in great numbers to hear his words.

He was a master whittler as he carved sturdy handles for the various tools of that day. They were of such good quality that he could peddle a sack full one or two at a time anywhere he went.

Much of info for this bio summary comes from Elijah's grandson Clifford Lee.
