Darius Masten (some records show him as Darias) was the eldest of eight known children of Mathias Masten Jr. (1765-1856) and Sarah Standley/Stanley Masten (1775-1862) on 09 Dec 1794 at Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. The parents moved to Indiana in 1832, but Darius stayed behind in North Carolina witih his growing family.
Darius married first to Phebe Standley (1798-a1821). It is not believed that Darias and Phebe had any children.
After Phebe died, Darius remarried to Mary (Polly) Fair (1795-1872) on 04 Feb 1821 at Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. Darius and Polly were the parents of eight known children, namely:
1. Mathias Masten (1821-1873)
2. John Masten (1823-1824)
3. Hezekiah Masten (1825-1859)
4. Robert Linville Masten (1826-1914)
5. Melvina Masten (1829-1829)
6. Darius Alexander Masten (1832-1874)
7. Dorothy Fair Masten (1838-1848)
8. Henry G. Masten (1839-1848)
