Betty Lou Winingham, 79, of 126 S. Ferry St., died at 6 pm July 28, 2011, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

She was born Aug. 12, 1931, in Blakesburg to Joseph Franklin and Edith Delores Kelly Pickens. She married Harold Oscar Winingham on May 1, 1954. A graduate of Ottumwa High School, she had lived in different places while her husband was in the military, moving back to Ottumwa in 1977.

She was a charter member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed reading, especially her Bible and her Kindle, and really liked the Chicago Cubs.

Surviving are her husband, Harold; a son, Tony(Melissa)Winingham; a daughter, Nancy(David)Schol; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew, Christian, Michelle, Cole, Bethann, Jake and Bradley; two great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Jaiza; three brothers, Donald(Jean)Pickens of Florida, Robert(Dianne)Pickens of Cendar Rapids, Dennis(Debbie)Pickens of Ottumwa; five sisters, Mary Renfrew of Ottumwa, Joyce(Mark)Leaver of Wisconsin, Doris Kirby and Patricia(Bill)Gosnell, both of Marion, Sandra(Cecil)Norris of Florida; a brother-in-law, Clem Gerhartz of Harper's Ferry; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Pickens of Ottumwa and Sue Pickens of Topeka, Kan.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny and Jim Pickens; a sister, Phyllis Gerhartz; and two brothers-in-law, Dale Kirby and Leroy Renfrew.

Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday at Trinity Church of the Nazarene; the Rev. Mark Eigsti and her brother, the Rev. Donald Pickens, officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 am Monday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 7-9 pm Monday evening. Memorials may be made to Homestead Youth Home for Autistic Children in Altoona.
