Roy was born in Tennessee but his family moved to Chickamauga, GA when he was young. Roy was a retired Chief Warrant Officer in the Naval Reserves and also retired from Civil Service. He was doing research on the Ketner and Beale families and helped other in the family with their research. Roy passed away at the age of 79 at his home. He is buried next to his wife, Bernice.

YORK - Roy Levi Ketner, 79, of Yorktown, an administrative staff officer of the Naval Reserve Officer's School in Newport News, died Thursday, May 16, in Mary Immaculate Hospital, Newport News.
Mr. Ketner was a student in the school and then served as a member of its staff from 1955 to 1972. He retired as a chief warrant officer from the Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, in 1973 after a total of 37 years of military and civilian service; he had been a supervisory engineering technician. He was a veteran of World War II.
A resident of York County since 1940, Mr. Ketner was a native of Tennessee. He was a member of Yorktown Baptist Church and the Scott Huston Bible Class. He had served as a volunteer worker with the York County-Poquoson Red Cross.
Mr. Ketner was a life member and a past president of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Reserve Officers Association and a member of the Virginia Peninsula Retired Officers Association, the Association of Minemen, the Peninsula Fleet Reserve Association 172 and the Fort Eustis Officers Club.
He was also a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, the Peninsula Caged Bird Society and the Fort Eustis Historical and Archaeological Society.
Mr. Ketner was family historian for the Ketner and Allied families and the Cagle Family Association and held membership in the Austin Families Association of America.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice R. Ketner; and two godchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Yorktown Baptist Church by the Rev. Draa Thompson. Burial with Fleet Reserve services at graveside will be at 2 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk.
