Lorenzo W Lierly was born to Wilson St Clair Lierly, of Illinois and his wife Mary Ann Blosser Lierly of California, probably in Santa Barbara, California. The first record found of him was the 1900 Federal census, when he was 11 years old. He had the following siblings:
Elwin C Lierly; Wray L Lierly; Irene G Lierly and Nellie M Lierly. Wilson Liery's occupation was a farmer and he was raising live stock. There were two hired men in the household as well as a 19 year old single lady listed as a servant.
In about 1913 Lorenzo married Edna M. Saulsbury, daughter of David Saulsbury and Permelia "Amelia" Jane Beckett. Lorenzo and Edna probably met while both families were living in Santa Maria, Santa Barbara, CA. From this union was born three children. They were: June V Lierly born in 1915; Harold C Lierly born in 1916; and Lois L Lierly born in 1924
By 1920 the Federal census disclosed that Lorenzo Lierly was living in Kern Co. He owned his home free of any mortgage. He was employed as a machinist for an Oil Co.
The 1930 census revealed a big change in Lorenzo's way of life He and his family had moved to Arroyo Grande, San Louis Obispo Co. CA. The world was in the midst of the great depression, but they had the luxury of having a radio in the home. Lorenzo now was engaged in poultry farming. .
July 31, 1937 was a sad day for the Lierly family. Edna May Saulsbury Lierly passed away and she was buried in the Arroyo Grande Cemetery.
The 1940 census indicates that Lorenzo residence is still Arroyo Grande, and he is still a poultry man. He had recently remarried a High School teacher named Grace.
On Jul. 27, 1965 Lorenzo W. Leirly passed away in Arroyo Grande and was buried in Section G, beside his first wife, Edna May Saulsbury Lierly, in the Arroyo Grande Cemetery.
Lorenzo's second wife, Grace Ethel Lierly passed away Dec. 3, 1995, and is also buried close by in Section G.
Lorenzo was a member of the Masons Lodge and both of his wives were members of the Eastern Star.
